Not Your Typical Dive Site

In the late 1960′s Duke Power was in the process of flooding the Jocassee Valley for a hydroelectric project. The only problem is that the valley housed the Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. Like most everything else in the valley most of the graves were moved, however a few headstones were left behind.
Lake Hocassee is located in South Carolina, divers head there year after year to dive with the Headstones. For this dive it is a more than just a regular dive, the headstones sit at around 135 feet, this is at the very limit of the sport diving realm. Around 100 feet trunks of pine trees spring out of the darkness. The worst part of this dive is that while dealing with nitrogen narcosis you will also have to deal with the spooky factor that you will be diving next to headstones and graves that were formerly occupied.
Due to the high risk involved with theses types of dives I would say it is definitely for a diver with a higher experience level. Divers will want to check with local dive operators to see when the best time to dive these sites, also check to see if they have guided tours of this site, this way you can have someone show you this spooky dive site.
Till Next Time
