Oceanic Probe LX Review

The Oceanic Probe LX Buoyancy Compensator is designed for the diver looking for a traditional jacket style BC. Yet this BC has features that will give a diver just a little bit more.

To understand this Buoyancy Compensator it starts with it’s construction. The shoulder and pocket panel material are made from 1600 denier cordura material, this makes the Probe LX extremely durable and this material wont fade over time. The Air cell is made from Bioflex material, the greatest advantage to Bioflex material is that as you inflate the Buoyancy Compensator the material will stretch, this allows for a much snugger fit and will also keep everything tucked in tight.

Now to some of the features of the Probe LX. First lets start with weight integration, the probe lx is capable of handling up to 30 lbs of lead weight in designated weight pockets. Second, tons of metal D-Rings, this BC has 7 in total, meaning you have lots of places to clip off your toys to play with. Third, Zippered Pockets, this may not seem as important as some of the other things listed but zippered pockets are so much easier to get into as compared to velcro pockets. There are also two smaller utility pockets that can be used to store little gadgets inside as well. The last feature is a depth compensating cummerbund, what this does is as the diver descends down underwater the cummerbund will not become loose due to suit compression, instead it will stay snug throughout the dive.

Now another nice feature of the Probe LX is the amount of places that you can dump air out of when you need to. There is the traditional way of any standard BC but there are also two rapid releases attached with Pull balls, one located in the rear and one on the right shoulder. This will allow a diver to rapidly dump air out of their Buoyancy Compensator. The last rapid air dump is located at the top of the BC hose, all you would have to do is pull down on the hose and it will dump the air out.

One of the few downsides of the Probe LX is the weight of it, meaning when you are packing your bag for your next tropical adventure be sure to account for the extra bulk that this BC will possess.

The Probe LX is a feature packed Buoyancy compensator that will meet even the most demanding diver’s needs and is available in sizes small through 2x Large.

Till Next Time
