Oceanic V-6 Split Fin Review

Posted on Mar, 2010 in Home/Reviews/Oceanic V-6 Split Fin Review

Divers are always trying to find the fin that works best for them. I use a variety of fins actually, i have paddle fins, split fins, full foot fins, tons of different fins for every occasion.

Now there are many things that go into a fins efficiency, the type of material it is made out of, the design of the fin. The Oceanic V-6 is a split fin made up of an evaprene composite material.

The first thing i noticed with this fin is that the response is much quicker than many split fins on the market, I have used the mares raptor, Oceanic V-12 and the Oceanic V-16. Part of the reason is that there are no rubber materials used to make this fin. This makes the fin lighter as well, meaning it is a really nice travel fin as it packs well and does not take a lot of weight up in the suit case.

The V-6 does have a downside though, due to the more responsiveness of the fin the V-6 user will feel the effect on their legs more than other split fins on the market. When testing this i actually preferred the feeling that was generated by the V-6, this comes from years of using paddle fins which will definitely feel the response more than a split fin.

As for sizing, I wear a size 12 and the fin comes in 11-12 as the biggest size, i actually wish they made a 12-13, as the 11-12 is a little tight for me when putting the fin on.

All in all i would say this a nice little travel fin, most likely it will see the water for a few vacations a year and maybe some pool classes as well. So if you are looking for a nice affordable full foot split fin i would check out the V-6 from oceanic.
