White’s Fusion: MINI In water review
Posted on Dec, 2009 in Home/Reviews/White’s Fusion: MINI In water review
OK I finally got a chance to dive my new fusion, the only problem it was in a pool so it wasn’t like a full dive. First thing i noticed in water was once again the flexibility, i could mover around very easy and did not have to worry about not being held back for the class i was teaching.
Next thing i noticed with this suit is i did not have any limitations when it came to goofing around in the pool, floating upside down was really easy, in fact i thought it was easier than when wearing a wet suit. The best thing of the night came when my students had progressed far enough that it was time for ditch and don. If you can’t remember ditch and don from your basic class, this is the one where all of your gear has to be off underwater with you air turned off, then you put it all back on.
First let me tell you I do not want to do this again in a drysuit, i had to make sure that all of the air was removed from the suit, which caused it to really squeeze me. Second with the amount of weight i had to wear for the drysuit it did not make it any easier to stay stuck to the bottom. The worst part of it all was when i had to detach the inflator button to move my BC away from me, when reattaching it shot a little water into the suit.
I also learned a lot about the materials that the inside of fusion drysuits are made of. First off, it likes to stick to bare skin, this is why drysuit undergarments are designed to cover any part of your body that is in the suit. As for the sticking, lets just say it is uncomfortable, I found myself closing off the drysuit valves so that no air could leave the suit, i then proceeded to add tons of air to the suit, my students found this funny as i looked like the marshmallow man. When i walked out of the water i blew the suit up even more, everyone there had a good laugh at this. Needless to say I will never wear the drysuit without making sure that my skin underneath the suit is completely covered.
Needless to say i want to go out and dive this suit in open water conditions so that i can get a really good feel for how the suit is when it is being dove, however it is tough to find dive partners in December in NY.
Check back for another review of in water performance of how the suit performs, after diving it i will be able to finally review the Fusion better along with Whites new MK 3 undergarment and the SI-Tech dry glove system.
Happy Holidays
Alex
