Getting ready for Dive Season
Posted on Apr, 2010 in Home/How To.../Getting ready for Dive Season
For some their dive season never really ends, for most others located in Buffalo the dive season ended back in October and is now starting to get closer and closer. As the dive season approaches Divers now must take the time to make sure that everything is ready for them to get into the water. Here are some helpful tips to get you prepared for the upcoming dive season.
1. Bring Your Gear in for Service. Tanks need to have a visual inspection every year and a hydrostatic inspection every 5 years. Regulators should be inspected or fully serviced every year, this makes sure that your regulator is in top working order and also makes sure that you do not have to worry about it breaking in the middle of dive season. BC’s should also be brought in to be checked, this will allow a service technician to check for any leaks and to make sure that the inflator is working properly as well as any deflate valves. Having your gear serviced now is a better option as service departments are not backed up. Summer time is the worst time to bring in service as everyone decides to bring it in at that time.
2. Making sure that all wetsuits and wetsuit accessories still fit. Most will wait until they show up for a dive and put their wetsuit on till they realize that it is either too small or too big now, checking a few months ahead of time will make it so you never show up with the wrong thing. Also check everything for any tears or rips that can be fixed now instead of later in the season when it gets worse.
3. Check Drysuits. For those diving dry it is a good thing to make sure that your suit has no leaks and that the seals are still in top working order, this will save you from a cold wet dive if you just check the equipment before hand.
4. Start arranging any dives that you are thinking of doing. Waiting until the last second usually does not end well when wanting to sign up for a dive activity, make sure that any activity that you wish to do is booked well in advance.
5. Take a refresher course if it has been a while since you have been in the water, or if only a few months plan a nice easy shallow quarry dive to get you acclimated back into diving for the summer.
With these 5 tips you can make it so dive season does not just come out of nowhere, instead be prepared and you will see the benefits of starting the preparations of dive season a few months earlier.
Till Next Time
