Over 35 divers,  including several members from the Buffalo Police Underwater Recovery Team.  Like our trip in July, this trip was a great success!  The wrecks that we dove were the Sweepstakes, W.L. Wetmore, Forest City, Caroline Rose, Niagara II and the Caves.  Friday evening, 11 divers participated in a sport diving run in the Tobermory Health Clinics Recompression Chamber as part of the weekend fun!

Several divers on the trip were also working on their Advanced Diver certification and even Master Diver certification.  Everyone completed their modules with great success!

Due to the continued success of our trips, Dip ‘N Dive has already scheduled our trips to Tobermory for 2010!  The dates that we’ll be their are July 23rd-25th & September 10th-12th.  Dip ‘N Dive will start taking reservations for both of these trips starting Monday, January 4th 2010.  It is highly suggested that you reserve your spot on these trips since both of our trips this year, as in year’s past, were SOLD OUT!

You will learn advanced compass navigation skills along with learning how to use the natural bottom contours found underwater on different types of dives. This will ensure your confidence by knowing your location on every dive.

Night Dive 150x150 Navigation & Night DiveNight Dive: Learn how the underwater world changes at night. See things differently at night and also see how marine life changes when the sun goes down. Our staff will show you how to plan your entry and exit points properly, how to mark your exit and several other safety procedures which will teach you how to have a fun and safe night diving experience.

By popular demand, we’ve created another video on two shipwrecks that we dove several years ago.  Below is a video  that was digitally converted and made into a movie.  This short movie, is about two of the more popular ship wrecks inside the Fathom Five National Marine Park in Tobermory, Canada.

Below is some information on each wreck just in case you’re not familiar with them.

Arabia:

Type: Shipwreck
Build: Wooden Three-masted Barque
Depth: 106′
Length: 131′
Built: 1853
Sunk: 1884
Access: Boat
Level: Advanced

arabia 150x150 The Arabia & Forest City Shipwrecks by Dip N DiveIn 1854, she sailed to Glasgow, Scotland with a cargo of wheat and flour. She remained in the coastal trade on the northwest cost of Great Britain for a year or so. During that time, Tobermory, Scotland (on the isle of Mull) was one of her ports of call. After returning to Canada, she ran aground near Flowerpot Island in 1883. She was repaired and continued her service. The following year, she met her ultimate fate near Echo Island as she floundered and sank.  This is one of the most interesting shipwrecks in Tobermory.

Type: Shipwreck
Build: Propeller Steamer
Depth: 70′ – 150′
Length: 216′
Built: 1890
Sunk: 1904
Access: Boat
Level: Advanced

Forest 150x150 The Arabia & Forest City Shipwrecks by Dip N DiveThe broken bow begins in 60 feet of water and drops to a relatively intact stern in 150 feet of water. One of the most interesting parts of the wreck lies between 100′ and 150′.  The smoke funnel and boilers are in place located at 110 to 130 feet. The stern is reasonably intact and the name Forest City can still be seen on the transom. The stern can be penetrated and much debris can been seen.

The Master Diver Course began yesterday with 5 eager new students.   The Master Diver certification is the highest non-leadership certification level.  Anyone who completes this course should be proud of their accomplishment!  The course includes such topics as Emergency Ascent Training, Search & Recovery, Equipment Deep Diving and a short Decompression Chamber Dive in Tobermary, Canada during our always sold out weekend trip.
