Trident Dive Travel Video Adventure Series - The Caves, Caverns and Wreck of Cozumel

In this program in the Dive Travel Video Adventure Series; we take you on an underwater, narrated excursion down to 132' (40 meters) through the famous cavesand caverns located on the southern end of Cozumel Island. The Caribbean waters are crystal clear along the Grand Mayan Reef, the second longest barrier reef inthe world. First, tour the topside attractions which draw as many as a dozen cruise ships at any one time to the famous Mexican port, rated the 5th most popular island in the entire world.
Then, we take you down, dark and deep, through the infamous Devil's Throat and other caves and caverns of Cozumel. Devil's Throat is part of the Punta Sur (Southern point) coral reef, the Devil's Throat is actually a narrow, almost vertical tunnel through the coral reef structure. However, the entire formation is commonly referred to as The Devil's Throat. The formation also includes an underwater cave referred to as Catedral (the Cathedral).
We also tour through the island's only wreck known as the C53. Felipe Xicotencatl (C53) was originally built in Tampa at the Wilson Marine Ship-works in 1944. Measuring 184' (56 meters) long, 33' (10 meters) wide and 40' (12.2 meters) high from keel to the top of the super structure, this ship was put intoservice as mine sweeper for the US Navy as SCUFFLES. Sold to the Mexican Navy, converted to an Admiral Class gun boat and named and numbered FELIPE XICOTANCATLC-53. After 55 years of service the ship was finally decommissioned in 1999 and donated to the Cozumel underwater park and sunk in 1999 in 80' (24 meters) of water to be turned into an artificial reef. The Ship itself is 154' (56 meters) long, 33' (10 meters) wide and was sunk to land perfectly upright resting on theseabed in 80' (24 meters) of water. The superstructure of the ship rises to 40' (12 meters) from the seabed allowing divers to reach the superstructure of the wreck by descending just 20' (6 meters) from the surface. Hold on to your seats for this one!
